Hello! I am so happy you're here 

My name is Shemieke (shem-ee-ka), but please feel free to call me Shem 💕

I am a 29 year old Kaurna and Ngarrindjeri (First Nations people from multiple Adelaide regions) woman and live in a home I built 6 years ago with my boyfriend Michał and dog, Gracie by the beach - you will often see them on my personal instagram and also sometimes my business page. They truly mean a lot to me and occasionally even drop me off and pick me up from photoshoots 🩷

I love getting creative with shoots and always deliver more photos than intended.

I have lots of experience with and love energetic children and I love making people look and feel good, which includes being able to pose people confidently if needed

I can be serious when needed, but I also laugh and joke a lot - I like to have fun! I love providing sneak peeks soon after the photoshoot and will always show you the photos behind the lens as we go, because I know you look good and I want you to see ☺️

I grew up loving photography, especially food, products, portraits, nature and macro. I found my passion through studying digital media, graphic design, information publishing and processing and art for four years at high school and even asked for and received a Canon camera for my 16th birthday (I still have it, but use a Sony now and love both).

After graduating high school, I pursued a career in Human Resources, which I loved!

However, at 25 years old, I became seriously unwell after many years of significant challenges, high expectations, long hours, intense pressure and way too much caffeine 🥲.

My doctor advised me to take a break from work as the stress was causing serious symptoms, and after many tests and appointments, I was told I was close to having a stroke and needed to make a lot of changes in my life. 

Due to all of this, I now have multiple chronic illnesses such as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and vestibular migraines and can't drink any coffee at all now (but love a green tea) 💔

I have learnt so much from this experience and decided to focus on my health, a better work life balance and a career that I have loved for as long as I can remember.

I love helping others and making people feel good and beautiful and love that I am now in a position to do that, and capture your memories forever 💕

I specialise in a combination of editorial, documentary and fine art style photography and you'll often see images of nature, animals and footprints on my social media. 

Growing up, I spent a lot of time at the beach, fishing, camping and exploring. My dad taught me how to read animal tracks and find food in the bush, my Grandma, Cherie Warrara Watkins, taught me how to sing, speak Kaurna language, draw and paint.

The land here holds a special place in my heart and I will always show it off where I can. However, you may also find me at the Basement Gallery and Studio, at a local business, outside a beautiful building or in a client's home.
